Yuma County Youth Boxing Association's 16 year old Victor Arriola (165 LBS) advanced to the finals where he was out pointed by Cleveland's Kenny Porter to become the 2003 Junior Golden Glove National Invitational Champion. Victor advanced to the finals having won by decision both Levar Stewart of Chicago Golden Gloves and Nick Brinson of New York State Golden Gloves. Nick Brinson scored a dramatic stoppage by RSC (referee stops contest) in the 1st round of rugged Gerald Lopez of Colorado/New Mexico Golden Gloves Region. In the two meetings between Victor Arriola and Gerald Lopez of New Mexico, Victor has come up just short of victory. As a friendly rival, Gerald Lopez assisted YCYBA coach Billy Orta in Victor's corner in his bout with Brinson and in the Championship bout with Kenny Porter. Victor Arriola, the Board of Directors, coaching staff and boxers' families want to thank you for the generous support to help make the journey to the East Coast possible. Victor is setting his sights to the Olympics with his training dedicated to a possible spot on the team earned through a vigorous effort to be put forth after a brief respite. Yuma County Youth Boxing Association is a non profit organization which is dependent on broad based support to "KEEP KIDS FIRST" and "Off The Streets". In addition to private donations, YCYBA is receiving CDBG Funding for participatory scholarships and City of Yuma funding (rent & monitor at gym). All else is a massive volunteer effort, since February 1999. YCYBA is Arizona's largest amateur boxing program.... SWEAT EQUITY IS EARNED IN AMERICA'S Martial Art since 1888 here in the Southwest.
