Victor Arriola will compete as a Middleweight at the
2003 National
Junior Golden Gloves Championship July 20-23 at Liverpool,New York.
In June 2003, YCYBA's stand out boxer won
a Bronze Medal at the
National
Junior Olympics held at Alexandria, Louisiana.
Facing
light-heavyweights
in the 176 pound division, Victor was the
smallest of the Nation's
Regional Champions. Representing the "Four Corners Region",
Victor won
the quarter finals on June 18th with a
decision over Craig Hernandez of
Houston, Texas - losing in the
semifinals the next day by decision to
David Imoersiri of Long Beach.
Mr. Imoersiri lost to the Gold Medalist, Alan Lawrence of Newark, New
Jersey the following evening.
Victor has been training at
Yuma County Youth Boxing Association's gym
since January under head coach, Billy Orta and assistant coach, Jose
Sanchez.
Coach Orta will accompany Victor to Liverpool - along with Fred & Hedi
Block,
who are both volunteer members of the YCYBA Board of Directors
and
USA Boxing Officials
and will participate in that capacity.
Expenses for the board members are for the own account,
Coach Orta will
fly at his own expense.
YCYBA seeks donations and sponsors to help
meet the costs of running
Arizona's largest Olympic-Style Boxing program.
Victor is available before Friday July 18th for interview and photos
with his Bronze Medal prior to his departure for New York at Midnight.
